IMPORTANT BEATLES COLLECTION--OFFERED ONE TIME ONLY!
by: Todd Lavender

**Ok folks. I am having to relist this because the high bidder did not have the funds to complete the transaction. It truly amazes me that someone who has been a member of ebay for 3 1/2 years with 100% positive feedback would actually bid over $4000 for a collection without having the money to purchase it! I guess it is my misfortune. Due to this, I must require that the high bidder email me within 24 hours of auction's ending time to establish contact. As explained later in the auction, I will have to get you an exact shipping calculation depending on your location. This collection is already very securely packaged up (in 10 boxes) and is ready to go out the door. The previous high bidder was in Phoenix, AZ, and UPS ground shipping calculation was $323.00. If you are closer to the east coast, this should be much lower. PLEASE, if you bid on this collection, be sure you have the funds to purchase. One last thing before we move on to the description......I HAVE LOWERED THE RESERVE EVEN MORE SINCE THE LAST LISTING! Truly, the reserve is a give-away!**

This huge collection of Beatles recordings and memorabilia represents my 30 years of collecting, researching, and completely involving myself in the history of the greatest rock band ever known. I can still remember the first time I heard a Beatles song. I was in a clothing store back in 1980 at the age of 9 when “Hey Jude” began playing over the store’s sound system. After the song ended, I listened closely to hear who the artist was. The DJ stated it was “The Beatles, Hey Jude.” Well, I thought she said “The Beatles Hate You!” So, I began looking for that single in the local music stores, and could never find it. Finally, I heard the song again a few weeks later, and realized it was actually Hey Jude!

I began asking my parents and other relatives about the Beatles, and found out my mother actually had a few of the early singles “I Should’ve Known Better” along with a few others. She also had the album “Meet the Beatles.” Of course, I claimed them as my own. I was able to score a few other singles from one of my uncles and an aunt, and this began the infancy of my collecting.

Later that year, just as I was beginning to understand the impact the Beatles had on rock and roll music, John Lennon was murdered. As a 10 year old, I remember how impressed I was to see the thousands, if not millions, of mourners and all of the stories that came across the television screen. This only added more fuel to the fire for my collecting interest, and I soon became even further immersed in the hysteria that surrounded the Beatles in their heyday. Even though I was not a product of the generation who grew up with the Beatles while they were together, I have carried an appreciation for their music, and an almost personal connection to this group for the past 29 plus years.

My collecting and learning has been a journey, but all good journeys must come to an end. This is the first time I have ever offered, or even considered offering my personal collection for sale. Due to personal reasons, I have made the difficult decision to part with a collection that almost became a part of me. Each rare find, each odd release, each alternate track that I uncovered represents a stepping stone in my life. I can tell you where I was and what I was doing when each of these finds were made.

It is my hope that you seasoned collectors will appreciate the rarity of many of the items in this collection. Although there are common items included, there are also some exceedingly rare items that should command attention. I’m sure there are collections that are more impressive than what you will see here, but please take the time to see what I have to offer. During my 11 years selling on ebay, I have always prided myself on offering collectables with very low starting prices and with out reserves. However, due to the nature and size of this collection, an extremely modest reserve has been placed here simply to protect myself from any possible ebay technical malfunctions. I’m sure you will be surprised how low the reserve is. Here is the rare opportunity to instantly obtain an advanced collection to add to your own, to make a sound investment which is sure to increase in value, or to add tons of stock to your Beatles section of your vintage vinyl store!

The best way I know to keep this auction organized is to create several categories, including Beatles albums, rare Beatles albums, solo albums, rare solo albums, Beatles singles, rare Beatles singles, solo singles, rare solo singles, Beatles-era magazines, rare memorabilia, books, and other miscellaneous collectables. I will seperate each category with a horizontal gray line to help you keep up with where you are since the ad is soooooo long. In summary, I have inventoried 284 Albums (Lps); 307 Singles (45 rpm); 40 Beatles era magazines; 37 Books (hardback and paperback); Some very rare memorabilia including an early shoulder bag (very seldom seen); concert ticket from 1965; 8 sets of original bubble gum trading card SETS; blue Beatles thermos; pinbacks; counter display;, rare posters; many SEALED LPs, and so much more. It has taken me over a week to accurately inventory this collection. I have visually graded the records. If there is an item you have more questions about, please feel free to email me.

Before we begin exploring this collection, I must state that I will only be offering this collection once. If the EXTREMELY modest reserve is not met, the collection will go back into storage, to be brought out again years in the future. Here's you chance to get a truly great collection, but don't hesitate, there will not be a re-list of this auction. I am not willing to seperate items from the collection to sell individually. Also, please be patient while the photos load....there are over 170 photos!

During my 11 years on ebay, I have only seen two of these offered. The highest brought well over $600.00 (and didn't have the original handle!!) I have taken several photos above to show the outstanding condition of this rare piece of memorabilia.

Above, you will see an extremely scarce ticket stub to the Beatles August 18th, 1965 concert held at Atlanta Stadium in Georgia. This ticket was for Row 6, Seat 6. This stub may have once been in a scrapbook as there is a think strip of clear tape along top and bottom edges. These really do not detract from the body or graphics, and do not detract from displaying this rare ticket.

The counter stand-up display shown above was manufactured by American Card Company in Providence, RI. The image measures 8 3/4 inches by 10 1/2 inches. As you can see, there is some wear on back and some browning on front with corner bumps. I don't think I've seen another one like this. Very early display piece, possibly used in a record store to promote one of the earlier Beatles releases.

Above, you will find an original blue Aladdin Beatles thermos. I have owned this thermos for about 25 years. My grandfather found this at a yard sale many years ago, and I have cherished this item ever since. Although not as nice as some, this is a solid original with both original blue lids and no holes. There are light rust specks on outside. Metal has "turned" darker over the years. The thermos does rattle when shaken, indicating a bad lining. Still, a great display item (I doubt anyone will be using these anyway!)

Check out the bubble gum card wrappers above! One is for the Beatles Color Cards, and I think the yellow wrapper is for the earlier black and white cards. **Be sure to keep working your way down this ad---I have EIGHT sets of original 1960s trading cards in this lot!!!

Wow! I'll bet not many of you have ever seen these! The photos above are showing three different "jelly" figures that were dispensed in bubble gum toy machines in the 1960s! I even have the original "eggs" they came in! The only Beatle missing is Ringo (not sure if they made him, or if I was just unable to get the fourth). When held to the light, these jelly-like figures are somewhat translucent (made very similar to rubber fishing worms today). I was surprised at the amount of detail these figures have! Almost IMPOSSIBLE to find, as these were manufactured to be "disposable" toys. The rings on top of the figures lead me to believe they were meant to be placed on a string and worn as a necklace. (I have them sandwiched between two pieces of plastic because they want to curl up to their original form inside the eggs).

This (above) is a lot of 8 original "arcade cards" or "vending cards" which are the size of postcards, but thicker. They have printed biographical information and "insider" gossip on the backs in typewriter font. Not sure of manufacturer, but old (and I strongly feel they are from the Beatles era).

The photos above show a lot of pinback buttons. The three smallest (Ringo, George, and Fan Club) are definitely originals. The other four appear to be later creations.

The photo above shows some other miscellaneous tickets and a Beatle Buddies Mempership Card. The two other ticket stubs are from a Beatlemania show in Joliet, Ill in 1982, and from "The Beatles, Away With Words" Multimedia show (not sure of date).

This neat little item is a rare 1989 3 inch CD titled "Party, Party" by Paul McCartney. This is Parlophone CD3R and is MINT with the MINT jacket!! VERY tough to find.

The photos above show several other odd items. One is a PROMO trading card from the 1993 River Group set "The Beatles Collection." This is card #7 of 9, and I think this was given out in Chicago (at a Beatles Convention or Trading Card Show). Some other items shown include an old ballpoint pen (missing clip), 3 wooden nickels (unsure of age), McCartney "Pipes of Peace" keychain with no ring, a 35mm slide of Ringo from the White Album 8 X 10s, Plastic hanger for a Beatles Tie, Pocket Mirror (suspected reproduction), and the "World's Smallest Beatle Poster."

Now let's move on to the 37 BEATLES BOOKS / PAPERBACKS, ETC.

You really need to take a close look above! Toward the top of this lot, you will see the highly sought-after hardback book "Songs, Pictures, and Stories of the Fabulous Beatles on VEE JAY" by Bruce Spizer! This is a dead mint hardback book with 242 pages. If you are a serious collector of Beatles items, this is a MUST to have! Mr. Spizer deciphers the often confusion surrounding the multitude of label variations from VJ, and gives in-depth stories of how certain records came into being. OUTSTANDING!

Not only that, but I have the companion book, "The Beatles Story on Capitol Records" by Bruce Spizer, 226 pages, hardback. Again, almost impossible to find on the secondary market, but a must have! This one is also dead mint, but has a couple of corner bumps which were there since I purchased it new.

Some of the rare paperbacks are an original Yellow Submarine from 1968, first printing, October 1968; Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl, 1977 Music Book; Rupert and the Frog Song (1984 McCartney first edition children's book); SHOUT by Philip Norman (Perma Bound for library); A Twist of Lennon by Cynthia Lennon (2 copies--one fair, one VG+); and many others. I'll let the photos speak for this lot as my hands are quickly tiring!!!

The group below is going to show some Miscellaneous BEATLES VIDEOS, CDs, POST-BEATLES-ERA MAGAZINES.

This lot includes several VHS tapes, including a SEALED copy of HELP from 1987; 1981 Media Home Entertainment release of Magical Mystery Tour; a few early Apple label cassettes, including a paper label cassette of Live Peace in Toronto with some shrink left; There is a rare Anthology 2 PROMO CD SAMPLER; 1998 Sean Lennon PROMO 4 song CD "Into the Sun"; 4 McCartney New World Tour programs; 6 misc. used 8-track tapes; Several magazines from the death of John Lennon (I remember going to the store the next morning a buying a few of the magazines pictured after Lennon's death); 6 "Beatles Experience" comic books; 1 "Personality Comics"; 1982 magazine "P.S. We Love You" (celebrating the 20th anniversary of the song); 1970s Rock Superstars HUGE McCartney poster; and so much more!!! Hang in there with me, only one more topic to go!!!

Finally, one more group of some Miscellaneous BEATLES MEMORABILIA AND PETE BEST AUTOGRAPH.
Great lot, including a VERY rare 1974 Apple poster featuring Beatles and solo Album covers; SEALED John Lennon doll, etc.

As shown above, this is a kind of hodge-podge mixture of more memorabilia (the last box I opened after taking the other 165 or so photos!) This lot includes a very rare and collectable 1997 Fossil Beatles Watch / Keychain set in "record" tin. This is a limited edition and is number 991 out of 10,000. DEAD MINT!!

You will also see an autographed 8 X 10 photo of Pete Best (FIRST Beatles Drummer!!). This is a later photograph showing his band from the late 1990s. GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC!!

There is also one of the John Lennon Applause dolls from the early 1990s STILL SEALED IN THE BAG! This doll is mint, never removed, and includes his guitar!

There are 7 TV Guides from the 1990s and 2000s which were commemorative issues.

I am also including my TWO MINT NEVER WORN Paul McCartney Concert Tour T-Shirts, one is from the New World Tour in 1993 (and includes my ticket stub to the concert) and the other is from the later Driving USA tour (Both are XL).

Super rare 1974 Capitol / Apple poster promoting the 10 year anniversary of Capitol Records!! Measures 24 by 36 inches and shows the Beatles albums and Solo Albums on Capitol!! 1.5 inch tear at top at fold, some corner tack holes, and couple of pieces of scotch tape on back, writing on back lower corner (old handwritten price).

You will also see a pair of MINT Apple Corps suspenders, some miscellaneous 8 X 10 photographs, some extra 8 X 10 color photos from The White Album, several goldmine mags featurin Beatles on the front, a vintage black and white poster (that I think dates to the 1960s or early 1970s), a very old Burger King book cover that is done VERY MUCH in the style of Yellow Submarine graphics, but gives no credit to the Beatles.

I would like to thank you for being patient with this auction ad. I know it is VERy lengthy, but I just didn't know a better way to present it. For me, it is a sad thing to part with something that was such a part of my life, but as I stated earlier, I must. It is my hope that some of you collectors can see the value in this collection. It would be an excellent collection for reselling individual items for profit----if it goes for anywhere close to my reserve, you will DEFINITELY be able to do that! My reserve reflects only about 10 of the rare items, and what they should truly bring here on ebay. I have a strong feeling the reserve is not going to be an issue. Ask me any questions you may have and I will try my best to answer them. I have tried to give an honest and true description of the items in this auction. I cannot claim to be the ultimate expert on Beatles collecting, and I am sure many of you are much more seasoned veterans than I. One note about shipping....obviously, this is going to be a heavy collection to ship, and will almost have to go in several seperate boxes. This will have to be calculated at the end of the auction according to your shipping address. I would suggest UPS Ground insured. Remember, there are 587 records in this lot, around 80 or so books, and a big stack of other items. I wish I could estimate the weight, but it is virtually impossible due to the size and nature of the collection. **THE $99.00 SHIPPING QUOTE IS ONLY AN ESTIMATE...EBAY REQUIRES I ENTER AN AMOUNT....I WILL CHARGE ONLY EXACT SHIPPING, NO HANDLING FEES!! Good luck to all who bid. SORRY, NO INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS ON THIS AUCTION!! **I cannot reveal the reserve in order to be fair to all bidders.** But again, I don't think the reserve will be there very long. Thank you all!

I'd like to leave you with one last image below. Since the collection would not fit in one room, I've created this collage as a reminder of most of the items in this collection:

Don't let this opportunity slip away!
